Mr Bones 2: Back from the Past (2008), starring Leon Schuster, remains the highest-grossing South African film of all time, earning roughly R35 million at the local box office. No other local film has come close since: the next biggest hits, Shucks, Pay Back the Money! (2015) at around R29 million and Liefling (2010) at just over R13 million, still fall well short.
