In 2023, 64% of the 1.08 million Grade 10 students from 2021 took their matric examinations. Within this cohort, 38% opted for the mathematics exam, and 64% of them successfully passed. This means that only 1 in 7 students from this cohort attained a matriculation pass in mathematics.
