Citizens of Nowhere
According to the UN Refugee Agency, Stateless Persons are individuals who are not considered citizens or nationals under the operation of the laws of any country. Currently the UNHCR reports on 3.9 million stateless people but this is known to be an underestimate and a global figure of 10 million is often used. However, this figure is not based on transparent demographic data, despite the UNHCR’s efforts to improve and coordinate data collection and estimates.
