   Well, this is a good statistic but I feel it might be biased … Do we have a statistic of the drop off rate of learners? My suspicion might be that more learners left school than before, thus influencing this statistic. A good statistic might be to compare number of learners that started in std 6 and passed matric. Even better if we can get the number of learners that started gr 1 in the same year and passed matric now … Wouldn’t you agree?

   My focal area is first the economy. We seem to be churning out qualified misfits into our economy hence high unemployment rate of qualified personnel. Which begs the question, is our economy managed and driven by an education system capable of delivering desired outputs in terms of productivity, GDP benchmarked on global output yardstick? We need to have a clearly defined economic vision to correct the ills and malady of our country, then design education system and institutions to drive that vision!!!

   I think 33% to pass is very low and that’s what leads to high unemployment rate, those who received the H Certificate, would unlikely given preference in the institutions of learning or workplace and will not do much after matric unless they re-write all those subject failed, in that case the 70.2% is not a true reflection of the actual pass rate.
