   does “black” include indians and coloureds? also, do chinese citizens also qualify as PDI’s now? would be cool if you can break it down between white, indian, coloured, black, chinese…

   Hi,

   Thanks for your comment. The fact only considered black students. Here is the full breakdown of enrollment at a public university (excl universities of technology) in 2002 and 2012:

   2002:
   African 307 000 (57%), Coloured 29 600 (5%), Indian 41 900 (8%), White 160 700 (30%), Unknown 1 800 (0%)

   2012:
   African 534 000 (67%), Coloured 47 300 (6%), Indian 47 800 (6%), White 161 700 (20%), Unknown 7 600 (1%)

   SA Population as at September 2004 – 46.5 million
   79% – African, 9,5% White, 9% Coloured and 2,5% Indian/Asian

   Also, the University Enrolment has Increased from 540k to 790k – a 46% Increase.

   The Indian & White Populations have stabilized at Enrolment Populations of 3,5% of their Total Populations.
   The Black & Coloured Populations have Increased from 0,8% to 1,35% & 1%.

   It would be Interesting to see what the Enrolment Populations to Qualification Ratios are & to compare the above figures with International Figures for Developing & Developed Nations…
