Approximately 5.74 million tonnes of oil were lost into the world’s oceans as a result of oil tanker incidents between 1970 and 2014. Over half of this total (56%) was spilt in the 1970’s, 20% in the 1980’s, 20% in the 1990’s and 4% in the 2000’s. (http://bit.ly/1FaAfPs)
