    Almost always comparing prices of goods and services in different countries does not take into account comparative earnings in each of these countries. How much does a lawyer, doctor, engineer etc earn (average, grouped by age etc) in each country – then compare what percentage of this income goes to food, cars, housing etc. Else we might suspect that there are degrees of comparison – Lies, Bigger lies and Statistics.

    In many countries energy is provided in a combination of gas and electricity. Combined aggregate comparison will give a very different picture. A comparison on the basis of a percentage of total household expenses will also be more meaningful.

    A rather misleading statement. If SA is the 15th most expensive out of 18, it would be more appropriate to say that SA is the 3rd cheapest.
