A study has found that a pair of orcas (known as ‘Port’ and ‘Starboard’) are driving away great white sharks from the South African coast. Five great white shark carcasses were discovered in the Gansbaai region between February and June 2017, believed to be orca killings. For the remainder of the year only 0-2 tagged great white sharks were detected per day, down from 3-8 detections per day beforehand.
