   Hi there FAD compilers

   Just to let you know that we read your Fact a Day most days and I have ALL the FADs filed so that I can go back to them. I am an author and publisher so constantly need up to date data which we can include in textbooks,other resources and presentations(and Eighty20 gets acknowledged). I love the FAD ones, because they are very topical and up to date. Thanks so much for all your creative use of the data. Please keep it flowing.

   Losing AMPS would not be good. But we wouldn’t understand it if it weren’t for Eighty20.

   Having been on the Marketing side of the equation (with P&G and AVI and now independently) for over 15 years, I had always taken AMPS and the associated media data as a given when buying media and debating target markets and such like. For the last two years I have been working with a client which markets export product from SA to Hong Kong and China and was absolutely gob-smacked to find out that there is no media data available in those markets at all! In fact, even Nielsen withdrew from these markets a few years back. It’s a totally different proposition, buying media in a data void, and I can genuinely say that I now appreciated AMPS so much more!

   It would be a travesty for a disagreement on data ownership to scuttle such a helpful study, and would send media buying back to the high-noon cowboy approach: shoot now, ask later and win on swagger alone. I hope it doesn’t come to this, imagine the ridiculous ad placements consumers would have to endure! And, obviously, the direct negative impact on media ROI for advertisers would be a blow not only to the advertisers and media themselves, but also to the media buying and marketing industries – we really would become the shoot-from-the-hip mavericks that so many business leaders believe us to be. Shame on us if we let AMPS disappear and live up to that image!

      Mid-year estimate 2013 of the population indicate a figure around 52.98 million, Census results show 23.55% own but not yet paid off (12.5 million). It is therefore Impolite to state: “55 million SA have mortgages”

   Without AMPS – the marketer will have to work a whole lot harder to gather all the information. Who has the time?
