   Yes, books have become too expensive.

   And – I do not see why we should have to pay VAT on books – it is no wonder we have so much illiteracy!

   At least the signs are there that we could be moving towards an educated Nation. The only problem is, educated in what? What are they viewing, what are they listening to and what are they reading?

   Nice to have such stats, however it would be better to have a combined stats where you can see how many of the 66% doesn’t have TV’s. My experience is that where there is no TV, people listen to the radio and start reading even if it only a weekly magazine. Come guys give us that stats… it might be quite an eye opener.

   Thanx. From these stats we can summise that listening to radio and reading is the most common entity. This proves that TV just cannot fulfil the need for reading matter, how interesting/boring the content of the TV shows are. What can we read from this statistic…. Come people there is a vast requirement for new reading matter, so get writing and get yourself published. Musicians, get your music recorded, there is a life after TV…. We really need more South African music.

   I forgot to mention that reading and radio has a big volume albeit that the TV is also present but not necessarily switched on, or the sound turned off as is the case in our household. The TV has a picture, the radio music and we read for our pleasure….

   Oh and just for some tongue-in-cheek comments….
   The TV can never replace the newspaper…. you just cannot wrap a piece of snoek and chips in a TV…..
