Uganda officially declared itself free of Ebola on 28 July 2026, marking the end of its 2026 outbreak, after the last confirmed patient was discharged in mid-June 2026 (the standard 42-day monitoring period without new cases having since passed). This was the outbreak’s ninth in the country’s history, and it was caused by the Sudan strain of the virus, for which there is currently no licenced vaccine.
