Pravin Gordhan announced that sin tax on cigarettes will increase by 60c to R10.92 per packet of 20 cigarettes. Last year the Tobacco Institute of South Africa (TISA) estimated that 8 billion smuggled cigarettes were smoked in South Africa costing the government R12bn in lost taxes.     Dont get the maths here. If taxes are R10.92 per packet of 20, then this is about 50c per cig. Thus the taxes on 8bn cigs should be about R4bn?

    What is the grpe about.In England cigarettes cost close to R100 (!!!) per 20
