   What a pity that this country won’t grant someone like His Holiness the Dalai Lama a visa… anyone would think that he is a criminal – he only wants to attend a birthday bash and receive a Peace Award… where is freedom and democracy – we should start worrying!

   This is not surprising. It would be interesting to see how we compare with countries like India China or Brazil. By the way, there is a huge amount of money being made out of visas, particularly by the Brits and Europeans, and it is not likley to go away, no matter if we clean up our act or not. We are paying for their consulates here.

   I dont mind complying with the entry requirements of other countries as long as we treat the citizens of countries that we need visas for in exactly the same way as they treat us. We are bullied by consular staff and treated like criminals at entry points into their countries. As an academic you have to attend conferences. I wont spend my money in these countries otherwise.

   It would be more interesting to see which countries rather than just a number ’cause getting a visa-less entry into Iraq is not as compelling as China…
