Under the right conditions, hot water can freeze faster than cold water -a phenomenon known as the Mpemba effect. Although studies suggest that evaporation, convection, and supercooling may contribute to the effect there is still debate among the scientific community. The effect was first observed by Tanzanian student Erasto Mpemba in 1963.
