   I am pretty sure that is the narrow definition of unemployment. In South Africa we should use the expanded rate as this includes those who have given up looking for work. That the amount of people who have given up is so high, is further evidence as to how bad the SA economy is.

      Yes this is the official (narrow) definition.
      The expanded rates are 41% and 21%, for age groups 25-34 and 45-54 respectively.

   What does this mean?
   Are the older generation more skilled than the young ones?
   What about all the new jobs and careers that are emerging now that did not exist a few years ago?
   It would be interesting to see this split by race.
   I suspect most f this unemployed 15% are not caucasian.

      21.2% of individuals aged between 25 and 34 with “other tertiary education” are unemployed. This contrasts with 9.3% of individuals aged between 45 and 54 with “other tertiary education”. A similar discrepancy is noted among graduates in the two age bands. This indicates that regardless of skill, the younger generations suffer more from unemployment.
      Furthermore, growth in the working age population has outpaced job creation.
