   Although Africa has 2% of the world’s “REGISTERED” vehicles ….. correct .. but this is Africa – so if you take into account all the bloody Unregistered and Unlicensed vehicles – it will probably make up more like 20% 😉 Just a thought…

   The facts are that one could get a truck license without even being tested driving a vehicle on the road. Comparison of registered trucks from 1991 to 2011 will reveal a considerable contributing factor argued to be necessary because of a loss of faith in railway security. Truck drivers disrespect completely the rules of the road and especially the safe changing of lanes. The illegal issue of a drivers license questionably the biggest factor and add to that foreigners who have never driven a vehicle and who arrive in RSA with an international drivers license that they bought at an automobile association…. and the carnage continues. Authorities and the purported associations blame speed and yet the reduction of the national limit on the N3 in the KZN region is argued to in fact INCREASE accidents as drivers who have already been on the road for 4 to 6 hours become bored at the 100KPH limit and fall asleep with the resulting horrific accidents seen regularly in that region. The public are not fooled and many believe that the reduced speed limits are nothing more than a money making racket. The cell phone fines are another questionable practice as it is absolutely fine to have a dog sitting on your lap while driving but never talk on a cellphone. An we havent even begun to talk about the taxis!!!

      I agree with all the interesting issues mentioned, and just highlight one “RESPECT, RESPECT and COURTESY” is the key!!!

   I am certain there are few thousand unregistered cars in South Africa. The 2% only accounts for the registered which does not really give a true reflection of how badly we’re contributing to the statistics.

   Well considering that there are more than 9.2 million registered vehicles in South Africa (2008 figures), I really don’t feel that a “few thousand unregistered cars” will skew the statistics.

   We all need to have more RESPECT and COURTESY for each other on the roads & in our daily contact with one another. – just imagine what a difference it would make. Really, if this country’s people will STOPS that arrogance which is the real killer.
