   There is lots of stats on who passed with 30%. That means they got 70% wrong.I would be interesed to know how many REALLY know the subject. Who got more than 50% say? can we see it in bands? 30-40, 40-50, 50-60 and so on? We won’t hire people who don’t get at least 60%.

   Second Frank on the points made. The Stats look good as a whole but a breakdown would be more informative.

   The statistic is not detailed enough to really form an opinion but from what is presented: This bodes ill for the future of any science!

   Any good mathemetician would know that even with a 50% pass rate you will get 1 out of two calculations wrong. Imagine if our future planners are going to be getting nearly 2 out of 3 calculations wrong!!!!!

   Both sides paint a sombre picture. Mathematics as a subject is an exact science, either you know it or you don’t. Seems to me the majority of students do not understand the subject. Mathematics Literacy is for kindergarten.
