Since 1994, the SA government has delivered around 3 million houses to the poor. However the housing backlog continues to increase from an estimated 1.5 million housing units in 1996 to 1.8 million units in 2001 and then 2.1 million in 2013. According to the FFC (Finance and Fiscal Commission) it would cost at least R800 billion to clear this housing backlog by 2020. (http://bit.ly/1M12ruE)
