24% of employed people in South Africa are members of a trade union. For the mining and quarrying industries, the percentage is 78%, the highest of all industries. (LFS 2013 Q3)

  1. I’d be very interested to know the %s split between public sector and private sector. My impression, looking at COSATU affiliates over the years is that the proportion of unionised labour is now heavily skewed towards the public sector with a relatively small percentage of private sector workers unionised.
