In the 2009 provincial elections, the ANC won eight of the provinces with between 60.8% (Northern Cape) and 85.6% (Mpumalanga) of the votes. The Western Cape provincial elections was won by the DA with 51.5% of the votes. (IEC South Africa, www.elections.org.za)
