South Africa scored a 7.91 (out of 10) in the EIU’s Democracy Index of 2008, ranked 31 out of 167 countries covered. Sweden had the highest score (9.88) and North Korea the lowest (0.86). (The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Index of Democracy 2008, http://bit.ly/cbT6Lm)
