Don’t bank on it

There are over 13.9 million grant recipients in South Africa. It is estimated that for the 2010/11 year 25% of beneficiaries will receive payment directly into their banking account (Estimates of National Expenditure 2010, Dept. of National Treasury)

    The last count there were 49 milloin people in SA excluding refugees and illegal immigrants. If thesefigs are correct, 28% of South Africans receive a Gov grant of some sort. What % of the 13.9 million are government old age pensioners?

    There is so much work to be done in South Africa yet the ANC government persists in turning our country into a welfare state – so that the voters become forever financially dependent on the ANC.

    Sounds rather a moot point.Dependency on grants
    is no longer associated with pensioners and the like. Others would like to use these handouts as dole around which to eek out a living due to unemployment or malingering around.
