At Europcar, a group C rental car (VW Polo, Toyota Corolla or similar) would cost you R743 for this coming weekend, February 6th to 8th. On the weekend of the World Cup finals (July 10th to 12th), the same car would cost you R1369. At Budget, the costs would be R600, for either weekend. (Company websites)
This week’s theme: Prices in South Africa
Post Script: As one commentator said, the Budget website, which gave the R600 figures, seems to be giving completely false information. If you call the call centre, you get costs of R1094 for this weekend (6 to 8 February) and R1638 for the World Cup weekend.

There is supply and demand, and then there is ripping off the tourists!
You can’t blame them for taking the prices up.
It makes good business sense. It’s not their responsibility to be good moral citizens.
It’s a tough market out there and they need to capitalize at every opportunity. Maybe those who feel that the prices should be flat, should ask themselves when last they helped out at a soup kitchen.
I tested it, they are correct about the website but if you phone the Budget call centre, their quote came to R1638.00 for a 2 day hire over that period. They obviously have not updated their website.
I wonder what the legal implications of this are? Anyone?
It is everybody’s responsibility to be good, moral citizens; also to breed and raise good moral citizens. Keep an eye on the likes of budget car hire; where people get a fair deal in and out of season: this is the way to real ongoing success. It is such a pity that the so-called elite and big guns of this world have not yet woken up to the truth; the true reason for spending time on planet Earth!
