1.8 million is a very large portion of our population who aren’t prepared to or sure about saving energy. This is the segment of the population who need to be educated about the cost savings incurred when switching off appliances, so they feel the benefits in their pockets, rather than trying to convince them of benefits to the environment.

Hi, i have made a decision to reduce mostly to save money. In the last 2 months i have seen my electricity come down by R600 just by switching off plugs. i dont use my clock radio in the day so i switch it off and reset at night. I dont water the garden every day with the irrigation system. We limit the time the creepy is on in the pool. I put buckets out to catch the water when it rains and use when i can. I dont use lights in the morning as it is light enough. I switch off the geyser when i go away. It may not be much overall but for me R600 is a substantial saving! We switch off the TV plug as well during the day! So if people could just see the money they would save that may be what will play a role in reducing usage!
