There are over two million more people with Afrikaans as a home language than English (6.1 million vs. 3.8 million). However, the number of English-speakers is growing at more than double the rate of Afrikaans-speakers (1.9% vs. 0.8% per annum). (Labour Force Survey 2004, Census 2001)
